PostSubject: Sam has gotten into a muddy mess how do I get it off?   Sam has gotten into a muddy mess how do I get it off? EmptyWed 16 Feb 2011, 21:40

Last night about midnight Sam appeared at the window and he's got quite a lot of mud on his fur. He doesn't seem to want to groom it off (not that I blame him) but is that normal for him not to? I felt it this morning and had a sniff and I do think it's mud, but some of it is really matted.

Today when I got home from work I wet a towel in warm water and brought out some food. As he was eating I was able to rub the towel over him and get a little off. I was amazed he let me. Poor little guy has quite a bit more but I will try to get more off tomorrow.

Does anyone know a way to get this mud off?

Sam has been on a weird schedule the last 10 days. He's around about 8 pm every night to be fed and sleeps in his shelter and is gone by morning and doesn't appear again until night. I thought he may be in heat? Hubby thinks now that it's a bit milder he just wants to wander like he used to? Saying that today he was around all day and is at the living room window now so maybe not in heat anymore?

Wonder what he's been up to. I think you're probably doing the right thing. I guess the only other way is to bath him, but that would totally stress him! (I remember having to do it to Dex!!!) It's great that he's letting you touch him. I suppose if you can get a bit off at the time it might spurr him on to groom himself.

Not sure about him being in heat? Do male cats go in heat? But maybe there's a female somewhere that he fancies giggle2

That's great that he's letting you touch him, I agree with Gemini, just a bit at a time might be the way forward.

Sometimes cats stop grooming themselves if they are off colour, have dental problems etc. Is he eating okay?

I don't think male cats go 'on heat'. Mine never did.

Guess 'in heat' is just for girl cats. He's probably got a girlfriend then Gemini. giggle1
They must have broke up as he's been around for 2 days now without wandering.

He's eating really well Flower Girl and He seems to have a little less on him this morning, so maybe he did get some off himself during the night. Will keep at him with a warm towel.

Thanks for advice.

Aww i hope you get some more off. I know Jerry had some mud on him a few weeks ago and once i got a wet cloth to him he soon started to wash the rest off himself - although i think it was more trying to dry himself.
